We Came As Romans: Understanding What We've Grown... Review

Synopsis:
We Came as Romans is an American rock band from Troy, Michigan. Formed in 2005, the band signed to Equal Vision Records in April 2009 and have released two EPs, Demonstrations (2008) and Dreams (2008), and one full-length album, To Plant a Seed (2009). Their second full-length album Understanding What We've Grown to Be is set for release on September 13, 2011. We Came as Romans have been known to use Detroit, Michigan as a reference to home, and has toured across the United States, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia.

Review:
The band finally drops their second album “What We’ve Grown To Be”, but is it up to par with the albums of the 2011 summer? What thoroughly surprised me was the way We Came As Romans can express a positive message in such an aggressive manner and still make it seem fluent. They also decide to add some symphonics to the back tracks which can be an acquired taste to fans of this musical genre. However as an addition to the album I think it expresses the versatility that the band is capable of comprehending. WCAR has made a great transition from their first album and will no doubt find some new fans with this release. Also a great note was how the tracks convert from dark to light which if you look at the cover is represented by the two creatures, an artistic touch that I truly appreciated. My one and only complaint is the clean vocals, they aren’t the worst but for some reason they just don’t suit the tracks. It could just be that perhaps Dave Stephens epic screams just smother out the clean vocals. Overall a stunning second album that is sure to make this band even more successful.
