Get Scared: Best Kind of Mess Review

Synopsis:
Get Scared consists of Nicolas Mathews, Johnny B, and Bradley Lloyd. From Layton, UT, the band came together in winter of 2008, writing, recording, engineering, and touring. After self-releasing their first EP and creating an internet buzz with their unique and true-to-style video for their track ‘If She Only Knew Voodoo Like I Do’, the band was put on notice by Universal Motown Records and quickly signed to the label.

Review:
Get Scared appears from the internet hype scene with their debut “Best Kind of Mess”. One will immediately notice their similar “The Used” sound and that will ultimately decide how you feel about this band. This album opens up with “Scream” with some artsy vocals and a whole lot of intricate vocal/guitar riffs. Nick Matthews has some serious singing talent and with this band’s writing and engineering, there is potential for greatness. Though most of the tracks sound the same, the constant change of tempo and theatrics going on will keep most entertained. “Mess” is an example of the variety, with some softer more radio friendly riffs and lyrics. Other tracks such as “Hurt” really showcase the vocal range on the band’s frontrunner. Overall I enjoyed the album especially since The Used has not released a good cd in almost four years. Don’t let their eccentric wardrobe and make up scare you off and if you are looking for a band that sounds similar to The Used or even DRUGS to an extent, then Get Scared will fill that gap.
