Ten Second Epic: Better Off Review

Synopsis:
Ten Second Epic is a five-piece rock band from Edmonton, Alberta. The band formed in 2002 and still consists of original lineup Andrew Usenik (vocals), Daniel Carriere (guitar), Craig Spelliscy (guitar), Sandy MacKinnon (bass guitar) and Patrick Birtles (drums). The band has released two full-length albums, Count Yourself In and Hometown. The band has announced their 3rd full-length record, Better Off, will be released on the week of September 19, 2011.

Review:
Ten Second Epic continues their musical career with “Better Off” and certainly brings a new sound we have yet to hear from this band. The album starts with “Young Classics” a song that broadcast the bands heavier musical skill set. It is by far my favorite Ten Second Epic song to date, but then slips back into their old roots not long after. After the transition back into their old emo/punk genre the album still has a fresh feel, but lacks the bang put forth by “Young Classics”. There are 2 other noteworthy tracks “Don’t” and “Northstar”, which showcase a depth to the band. Ten Second Epic fans will rejoice, though I wish the lyrical content had matured a bit from previous albums. They are several albums in so growth seems imminent and the opening track was a nice teaser to what the band could be in the future.
