Synopsis:
Sum 41 is a Canadian band that burst onto the scene in the late 90's. This punk rock band is world renowned, and the single "Fat Lip" is their most notable song to date. They perform up to roughly 300 times a year, and to date have released five full length albums.
Review:
There is no denying that over the last decade Sum 41 has all but faded from memory, but with there recent success on Warped Tour a new album seemed inevitable. Screaming Bloody Murder, has a great punk rock sound to it, but is constantly driven down by misplaced piano ballads. It is very difficult to keep a tempo especially with a band that is known for rocking out. In particular the song "Happiness Machine" starts off with an amazing sound but constantly kicks in and out between soft pop and punk rock. This practice has been done before, but usually it is received reasonably well, as for Sum 41...not so much. Sum 41 has potential to still be a great band, but they need to discover the true direction of the band and not just fire blindly into the night.
