Synopsis:
Silverstein is a Canadian post-hardcore band from Burlington, Ontario, formed in 2000. Their band name is a reference to the famous children's author Shel Silverstein, whom the band had admired and read the stories of as children. They have released a total of four studio albums, three EP's, a compilation album and a live DVD/CD. Their lineup, which has remained unchanged since the band signed to Victory Records, consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Shane Told, guitarists Neil Boshart and Josh Bradford, bass guitarist and backing vocalist Billy Hamilton, and drummer Paul Koehler.
Review:
Ever since the EP "Transitions" was released I have been waiting to see how Silverstein would truly sound when the album dropped, and boy was I impressed. Myself, like many hated "Arrivals and Departures" and truly thought that the downfall of Silverstein was inevitable, however after thoroughly listening to Rescue I am inclined to think that the band is just starting. Think of this cd as a compilation of their old records with a new taste of heavy melodies. It begins with a standard Silverstein opening song very fast collective rhythms, but then transitions to a much heavier Silverstein. While the lyrics have changed very little as far as theme is concerned the tracks flow very smoothly into each other. "Texas Mickey" one of my personal favorites has some guest vocals from Anthony Raneri of Bayside, which creates a harmony that would make a grown man cry. Simply put “Rescue" is a finely crafted Silverstein, and while the theme has not changed the band has greatly improved the quality of their work. Moral of the story...if you did not like Silverstein before...this album will not change your opinion.
