Within Temptation: The Unforgiving Review

Synopsis:

Within Temptation is a Dutch metal/rock band founded in 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. Their music is described as symphonic metal,  although their earlier material, such as Enter, was gothic metal. In an interview, Den Adel said they fell into a symphonic rock genre with various influences. In a later interview with 3VOOR12, Sharon stated that "we consider ourselves more a symphonic rock band ... we are in my opinion no gothic band".

Review:
Within Temptation has always been a band that could truly paint a portrait with the music and lyrics they convey. The Unforgiving takes that a step further and expresses an entire story through music, and to help this out they even have a comic book being released based off the album. While the album does not stray too far from previous albums it has a separate feel that makes the new tracks sound fresh. "The Demon's Fate" and "Fire and Ice" are two of the best tracks in my opinion, they both properly blend old school metal with new school technology along with a beautiful set of vocals to back them up. There is no doubt in my mind this album will win plenty of awards in 2011 and it will deserve every single one of them.
