We Are The Ocean: Go Now and Live Review

Synopsis:
The band was originally known as "Dead But Still Dreaming" with Dan Brown, Jack Spence and three others. After a while the band broke apart, but Dan and Jack carried on searching for new members during this time. They had formed a full line-up again by 2007 with Liam Cromby, Rickie Bloom and Tom Whittaker, and still under the original name of Dead But Still Dreaming. After a while, Rickie left the band and was replaced by Alfie Scully. Shortly after the creation of this solid band line-up, the band decided on a new start with the name We Are The Ocean.

Review:
This most recent album seemed to be a departure from the post hardcore genre into an alternative rock field. The band has fined tuned their sound, but it also seems to have nullified Dan Brown’s influence on most tracks with his stunning screaming vocals. There are a few tracks where the bands post hardcore roots bleed through, but overall this is a whole new sound for the band. Almost every track has been deeply perfected and harmonized, and songs like “The Waiting Room” really caught my attention. Other tracks such as “Runaway” focus more on the content and the lyrics rather than the overall sound, which is simply amazing. The instrument tempo this time around jumps a bit, but is most an ode to 80’s rock and guitar riffs. We Are The Ocean has definitely changed their sound a bit, but if anything this will actually benefit the band. The ability to evolve in music is very rare, and with this band they are capable of smoothly transitioning between genres. There are remnants of post hardcore still in this album, but its really all about the rock this time around
