Synopsis:
Egypt Central was formed on October 2, 2002. They wrote and recorded for one year until generating a buzz in their hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. After eight shows, they caught the attention of former Lava Records CEO Jason Flom. Flom offered the band a record deal after seeing their live performance. Egypt Central's self-titled debut album was recorded with producer Josh Abraham in Los Angeles. It experienced many delays, eventually being released by Fat Lady Music on January 15, 2008.
Review:
Egypt Central is finally back after a long break, and “White Rabbit” is a continuation of a good thing. One of my biggest fears when a band disappears for several years is if they can functionally revive their original sound. While the vocals seem more timid this album, but there is no denying the band still has their spark. The lyrics are about everything we’ve already heard drugs, death, sorrow, and starting over. In a genre of music where these types of bands flood the bargain bin of every music shop, it is nice to hear a band that actually has some quality. “Down In Flames” is one of my personal favorites, which is one of the more unique tracks on the cd. Also another quality track much like “Home” from their first cd “Backfire” has some great acoustics and truly showcases John Falls vocal talent. While this cd was not as heavy hitting as their self-titled release, I am glad to see a variety rather than them capitalizing on what they have already done. This entire album encompasses the stages of drug addiction and recovery and while that topic may be overdone in the music industry, Egypt Central has found a redeeming way about vocalizing the struggles. This is a great cd for their fans and a nice message for those struggling with addiction, I look forward to hearing more from this band in the future.
