Hands Like Houses: Ground Dweller Review

Synopsis:
Hands Like Houses is a post-hardcore group from Canberra, ACT, Australia which recently changed its name from So Long Safety. The band is renowned for its live performances and sophisticated musical style, garnering the group a large following in the Canberra area. On the 5th January 2012, the band announced that they had joined the Rise Records family, with the debut of Ground Dweller.

Review:
Hands Like Houses was a relatively unknown band that managed to become so popular while only having two demo songs released. This young band showed loads of promise and Ground Dweller proves that Rise Records knew what they were doing when they signed them. The vocals can rival that of Jonny Craig and Tyler Carter, who also do guest vocals on “Lion Skin”. They have a nice blending throughout the album of heavy and electronic, though in the electronic aspect they could use some improvement. There are so many tracks that deserve mention from beginning to end, but Watchmaker and The Sower really stand amongst the rest. These two songs truly showcase Hands Like House’s amazing talent. There are a few inconsistencies because of the album being recorded twice once in 2010 and again in 2011. This leaves some of the songs with a dated and less mature feel to them. Rise Records has another big band on their hands, though it may take some time to tell whether or not this band will survive its early fame.
