Synopsis:
Shinedown is a Southern hard rock band that originated in Jacksonville, Florida. Shinedown was formed in early 2002 by Brent Smith, Jasin Todd, Brad Stewart, and Barry Kerch. They were signed by Atlantic Records.
Review:
Shinedown returns after the widely successful release of “The Sound Of Madness” with their 2012 album which is far from impressive. Nobody was really expecting a hit album simply because the single to hype the album was “Bully” which featured lackluster lyrics and the same sound we have heard over and over again from this band. Shinedown has had tons of success, but ever since their debut album they have lacked the fire that made them famous. Amaryllis represents what Shinedown is becoming a mainstream debacle, constantly playing the same music with the same lyrics afraid to fall from the graces of public radio. That being said this album has shown minor improvement of heavier riffs and Brent Smith’s vocals truly hitting home in certain tracks. I found myself enjoying the two softer tracks more than anything else on the album simply because they show a beauty and maturity that has been lacking in a majority of their albums. Overall this was a cookie cutter album; those that loved listening to Shinedown on the radio will still love this album. The others that miss Shinedown from the debut album will still be disappointed. If you are looking for the only vibrant tracks on this album just skip to 9 and 12
